The proceedings for the first round allotment for engineering admission would be launched by August 10. The Education Minister P.K.Abdu Rabb told that the Government Order (GO) validating the agreement reached between the State Government and the Kerala Self-Financing Engineering College Management Association (KSFECMA), will be out in two days and the proceedings for the first allotment would be launched by August 10. He said the first allotment was scheduled to be launched in the first week of August and his department was working to materialise things as early as possible.

The problem that the CEE faced in launching the first allotment was apportioning the 15 percent community quota for each management as per the new agreement. The software for allotment needed some modification in this regard and moreover the stand of managements in this regard had to be ascertained. Those managements remaining silent will not get community quota and their 15 percent will be added to the general merit quota (SCMS has already opted out of this). Now the CEE has informed the managements to inform him of their preference by August 5 .

Applications from students too have to be invited for community quota and the draft and final lists too have to published. Since this process is time-consuming, the CEE has decided to put this off to the second allotment.  CEE B S Mavoji told Mathrubhumi Education that the allotment to the community quota will be made in the second allotment. Which means allotment to 35 percent government quota seats will only be made in the first allotment in the case of colleges which have opted for community quota while in the case of colleges like SCMS, allotment will be made to 50 percent government quota seats, in the first phase itself.

Since there are cases pending in the High Court regarding engineering admission, the CEE cautions in his each order that his proceedings will be subject to the orders of the court. Having made his side safe this way, the CEE hopes to proceed with the allotment also and circumvent any legal hurdle that exists now.
